‘When Calls the Heart’ Romance and Finally a Kiss on Hallmark Channel

March 30, 2014  Examiner.com

When Calls the Heart” is a romance and love story that has developed over the first season of the series on Hallmark Channel. The season one finale aired on March 29, 2014, leaving questions unanswered, although a renewal of the series has yet to be announced by Hallmark.

Fans of the romance, who call themselves #Hearties, were delighted that schoolteacher Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) and Mountie Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) finally declared their feelings for eachother and embraced in a kiss in the season finale, “Prelude to a Kiss.”

Hallmark has released new pictures of the embrace and kiss, attached in the slideshow. Also attached in the slideshow are pictures of Jack and Elizabeth as their romance progressed throughout the season.

The couple had an antogonistic relationship when they first met, but friendship and mutual respect developed over time.

Jack was jealous when Elizabeth was pursued by fortune-hunting scoundrel Billy Hamilton (Andrew W. Walker), a romantic rival up to no good.

Jack declared that he wanted to court Elizabeth and arranged a romantic dinner at Abigail’s (Lori Loughlin) cafe. Unfortunately, Jack was assigned to another post and he left Coal Valley, leaving Elizabeth tearful as she watched him ride away.

Jack was riding to his new post when he encountered a group of fellow Mounties, who informed him that the dangerous outlaws, the Tolliver gang, were seen near Coal Valley. The young Mountie high-tailed it back to Coal Valley, where he heroically rescued Elizabeth and her younger sister, Julie (Charlotte Hegele), who had been kidnapped. Jack was given a reward and his choice of posts, so he returned to Coal Valley to stay. He later donated the reward money to rebuild the church and school, which had been destroyed by fire.

The path to romance was once again complicated when Jack’s former fiance, pretty actress Rosemary LeVeaux (Pascale Hutton), arrived and declared that she wanted to win the handsome Mountie back. Rosemary represents the type of rival women hate, aggressive, somewhat catty and able to fool a lot of people most of the time with her show of personality and talent. Rosemary and Jack grew up together and they have a long history, so her arrival was a threat to Elizabeth.

In Prelude to a Kiss, Jack was torn, but finally declared that Elizabeth was “The One” for him. He drew a sketch of the two of them and presented it to his beloved, asking her to stay in Coal Valley. The embraced and kissed, a moment that had fans cheering. Later they stood across the street from eachother and watched a comet soar across the night sky and smiled happily.

The romance between Jack and Elizabeth is only part of the story of life in Coal Valley in the Canadian frontier. The story is also about the love between Elizabeth and her students; Jack’s commitment to the town; and the widows, particularly Abigail, picking up the pieces after the coal mine disaster that killed their hardworking husbands.

I agree with the lady that just said I hope that there will be further episodes in the future showing Jack and Elizabeth’s future together, but there will be no future.
I lost my husband 11 years ago and I look for programs that are cheerful and uplifting to keep my spirits up. This one diappointed me.
