Welcome to the Hearties!

Message from the Facebook Page Admins and The Webmaster

Welcome to the website for the Hearties, devoted fans of the Hallmark Channel original series When Calls The Heart inspired by the Canadian West book series from Janette Oke and directed by Michael Landon, Jr. and Brian Bird. An uplifting period drama set against the backdrop of a coal mining town in 1910, When Calls The Heart stars Erin Krakow (Elizabeth Thatcher), Daniel Lissing (Constable Jack Thornton), Lori Loughlin (Abigail Stanton), and a stellar supporting cast. Blending the elements of romance, adventure, and family values strangely absent from modern television programs, When Calls The Heart weaves a powerful story of hardship, faith, and love. Learn more about the series.

The term Hearties was coined by Janet Roark.  This website grew out of our passionate, active, and rapidly expanding Facebook fan base. We model our forum after the citizens of Coal Valley! That said, we know social media isn’t for everyone and we want to offer Hearties worldwide a place to connect and share their love of the show. We invite you to subscribe to our e-newsletter, check out photos and videos, read stories and posts from our Facebook page, participate in contests, add your pin to the Hearties map, answer polls, peruse treasured WCTH quotes and gems, leave comments, and more!

We hope you cherish When Calls The Heart as much as we do!

“I think the main theme of ‘When Calls the Heart’ is about community, love, and people working together. I think it’s also another example of people suffering a tragedy and coming together to form a different type of family, and friendships, and a lasting lifetime bond!”  –Lori Loughlin (Abigail Stanton)

We’ve been hooked since season 1, watching on Hallmark channel, So we have all the DVD’s, but didn’t realize until watching the extra’s from the DVD’s of Season 3 that there were Hearties. So we will hope for another reunion and will make plans! We watch and re-watch, laugh and cry and rejoice.

Today at the Colorado Hearties gathering we were brainstorming Maideas for getting the word out to our Hearties in Colorado about our events. It always seems that as we are posting pics someone mentions they would have come “had they known” is there a way in the newsletter that you could have a contact list of organizers of local Hearties groups that interested folks could contact. I would be the contact for Colorado Hearties. Just a thought.

Love this show like many fans, and so so happy my husband and I found it just last week (we have been binge-watching on amazon & netflix!) because it has lovely stories, great values (in my opinion) and I very much enjoy the historical basis. The professional & moral character of the Mounties is so well portrayed.

I am not sure if this is the correct forum — but if you do correspond with the writers et al, I am just so sad about the historical & geographical inaccuracies in the scripts!!! Perhaps others have also commented on this? I have seen some comments on costume inaccuracies already. A few dialogue examples such as “Which President was a bachelor”, “the State Judge / legal system”, “going to NY to act”, and “they have Philadelphia money” are all off base as this is supposedly based in Canada??

Canada and the US were very distinct countries particularly at that time where the systems of justice et al were very different north and south of the border. There were still deep emotions about the War of 1812 between the US and the British Empire. Canadians didn’t typically study or talk about US legal / governance and it was not a simple matter to travel between the countries. Canada was still very aligned to Britain. The West was a place apart however, as there was more movement North / South, yet Western Canada had distinct heritage, laws, customs and rules.

Canada in the early 1900’s had a Prime Minister – the Great Prime Minister Wilfred Laurier. It was a very exciting time as the new Province of Alberta joined the Confederation in 1905, prior to that time it was part of the NorthWest Territory (hence the NW Mounted Police) . The Province of British Columbia joined Confederation in 1871.

Historical accuracy would be helpful and educational to viewers, please. Also, is Hamilton supposed to be Hamilton, Ontario (on Lake Ontario) or is it a fictional place?

Perhaps these comments may be passed on to the writers / producers…

thanks and again I really enjoy the storytelling and character development. Hopefully the series will continue!?
