I love this show and I agree that the chemistry between Erin and Daniel was phenomenal. It is heartening to see this quality of acting with the whole cast on a show that promotes Christian morals and values. I was very sad like everyone else that Jack died in the show. I felt that the subject was handled well though and came at a providential time for me personally as both my mom and mother-in-law passed away on the same day literally a few weeks before these episodes aired. It was very therapeutic actually for me and I know that I am not alone. Death is something that happens every day and the loved ones who are left behind have to learn how to grieve and how to move on while honoring the memory of those who have passed.

Helene, I appreciate your thoughts regarding Erin and Daniel and their chemistry on the set. Their connection in the movie was so deep almost surreal. The transformation both characters went thru was so immense not only for them I’m sure but also for us the audience that more developments along those lines of growth was I think naturally unfolding. That’s why in order to preserve the integrity and strength of the story Daniel Lissing should have stayed especially after building such a suspense for 5 seasons. His character’s death was I’m sorry to say out of context and out of natural flow of the otherwise fabulous story. The main characters such as Abigail, Elizabeth and Jack are the bread and butter. Yes other characters can easily join but the integrity and the magic of the story is now affected in not so much of a good way, in my opinion. It’s true, life happens and Jack’s death resembles what happens in real life but I feel the audience could have been given more of a truly magical, almost too good to be true story, a fairytale story development and let people experience the deep love and dedication and further adventure Elizabeth and Jack were to go thru once Jack returned in a few weeks. I wish Daniel Lissing exceptional and rewarding success in his future endeavours. Just a compliment to him, no one can play that role of Jack as good as he did and have such a symbiotic in a way relationship with all other main characters.

Why was Pastor Frank taken out? We thought for sure Abigail and he would get married. He was a big part of hope valley Please bring him back. Its bad enough that Jack is gone. When calls the heart is the best show on TV today. And teach’s morals that are lost today in other TV shows. I hope that this show will go on for many more seasons. Such as NCIS has. And Heartland . When you have a show that is this good with great storys you keep it going.

Many Hearties were sad to see Pastor Frank leave to go work at Children’s Hospital. It’s hard to see favorite characters leave the show. Here’s hoping we’ll see another pastor join the Hope Valley community in season 6! And, yes, let’s hope and work for many more seasons of WCTH! 😊❤️

Maria— Thanks for visiting this site! I’m so sorry to hear you are heartbroken. But there is still hope in Hope Valley! They have begun filming season 6 and I very much believe there are so many more stories to tell! If you haven’t seen the Facebook Live video that Lori Loughlin, Erin Krakow, Daniel Lissing, and exec producer Brian Bird did for Hearties after the season 5 finale to explain the events, here’s the link to it: http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/when-calls-the-heart I hope you will check it out as it really helped me to understand why it happened.

Am I the only who took his death so seriously? I feel strange that I am so heartbroken over it.

I have just found WCTH in the last six months when my kids begged me to watch, now I am so glad I did! I too am broken up over Jack’s death, the chemistry been Erin and Daniel is unparalleled. Even though I hate Jack died I understand why it had to happen once Daniel decided to leave the show! No one can play Jack except Daniel! My only regret is that Jack did not die saving Elizabeth or if not her at least someone from Hope Valley! Having him die off scene even though it was saving another Mountie was not the best choice in my opinion. Even if he had save Mountie Nathan while he was visiting Hope Valley would have been better, that could have been a reason for Nathan to decide to stay in Hope Valley, looking after Jack’s town in his memory!

I started watching WCTH in November 2016. I got Netflix so I could watch the previous seasons. I admit I watched the episodes on Netflix over and over again. I watched Season 5, but did not watch the last 2 episodes. I live on the West Coast and I was following tweeter when all of a sudden it was filled with Jack’s death. Which I feel was done in a very unprofessional matter since so many children watch the show. There should have been a disclaimer instead of getting punched in the stomach and upsetting so many little ones. I had no interest in watching the last episode and from what I understand Elizabeth is now expecting. This is the easy way out for Hallmark and one I don’t agree with…a baby does not always fix the problem. I also have a problem with Hallmark because it is now obvious that they knew Daniel was leaving in Season 4. Hallmark should have just made a statement Daniel was leaving, instead all of us were on this up and down merry-go-round which they played up for increased ratings. I haven’t watched WCTH on Netflix because I now know what happens at the end. I haven’t watched any programing on Hallmark since WCTH and I find I don’t miss it now and I have more programs to watch on Netflix and it’s baseball season too. To be honest, I haven’t decided if I’ll watch Season 6 at this time probably not but that may change.

I hope you will reconsider watching the last two episodes of season 5 because, though there are some very sad moments, those episodes are so well-written, well-acted, and beautifully filmed. As for a disclaimer, before the season 5 finale, Hallmark Channel did have Lori Loughlin share a caution for parents that they might want to watch the episode first before allowing their children to watch, due to the sensitive nature of the episode. I have friends who decided to do just that and we’re very grateful for the caution.
Have you had a chance to watch the Facebook Live that Daniel Lissing, Lori Loughlin, Erin Krakow, and Brian Bird did the day after the season 5 finale? If not, here’s the link to watch it: http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/when-calls-the-heart/videos/producers-cut-when-calls-the-heart-facebook-live-after-show In the Facebook Live video, they shared information about the process of deciding how to handle Daniel’s departure. I was very impressed that they were so generous with their time and willing to discuss the situation. Daniel had the opportunity to speak about his departure and shared that it was for very personal reasons. Of course I am very sad that Daniel has left the show and that Jack died. However, I wouldn’t have wanted to know ahead of time because it would’ve been a dark cloud hanging over season 5, especially the wonderful wedding episode. I’m so glad we were able to enjoy that fantastic episode! Again, I hope you’ll be able to finish watching season 5 and enjoy season 6 when it starts. I haven’t found any other shows quite like WCTH on TV. And, please be aware that this website is run by Hearties, fans of the show, not by Hallmark Channel. If you would like to express your opinion to them, you should post on their Facebook page or write/email them.

Hi Lori, thank you for your reply. I actually think it’s wonderful that Daniel has left in order to expand his horizons. I think Daniel will always be thankful to Jack for opening the door to become well known and hopefully successful. I think Jack was a one dimensional character and Daniel really needed to find characters more challenging. Jack’s story line had pretty much come to an end when you think about it. However, I think Hallmark created this “He’s Back” theme to create ratings and hit high tweet numbers. Jack was gone then he’s back then he’s gone and then he’s dead. I am not in real fond of the baby story line. I don’t think problems are solved or grief shuts down because of a baby. It’s the writer’s easy way out of a situation that really couldn’t be handled in any other way at least in any Hallmark way.

Thanks for checking out the website and sharing your opinion. In my opinion, Jack came into Hope Valley as an ambitious Mountie who wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and live his mother’s teaching to never let a day go by without serving somebody else. However, Hope Valley and it’s citizens, particularly Rlizabeth, changed him. He opened his heart to love and to the charms of the little town. I found him to be a complex man, well written and exceptionally portrayed by Daniel Lissing. As for Jack’s absences and much-anticipated returns, I believe, from what I’ve seen and read, that was due to Daniel Lissing’s availability for filming. And from what was related by Lori, Daniel, Erin, and Brian in the Facebook Live video, it doesn’t sound like decisions about the storyline were easy for any of those involved—-writers, producers, actors, Hallmark Channel. That episode was so hard to watch, so I can’t imagine how difficult it was for them to write and film! After all, they kinda live with these characters for several months a year.😉 I must admit that near the end of the season 5 finale, I was begging them to tell us Elizabeth and Jack’s baby was on the way! You’re correct that having a baby doesn’t solve problems or alleviate grief, but I know from a friend that having a baby after your husband passes away brings joy back into your heart- as she put it. In this case, I’m counting on it bringing the hope & joy back to Hope Valley.❤️😊

I think the only way I would watch the show is if Niall Matter was to replace Daniel Lissing. I think Erin and Niall have chemistry together. Much more than her and Daniel.

I am sad about the series ending of season 5. I think Hallmarks should have made a salary increase that Daniel Lissing would not refuse, like double salary!
Although season 6 seems good with Elizabeth being pregnant with Jack’s baby, & Abigail who will help & support Elizabeth…
When Hallmarks made these 2 Christmas movies: “A cookie-cutter Christmas” with Erin Krakow; & “A December Bride” with Daniel Lissing… Although the stories were good, I was sad not to see them together. I had a strange feeling… Not a good feeling… The “chemistry” is good when they play together! Hallmarks is making a big mistake! They should give them a better salary, if that’s what it takes, but keep them together!

Wow, I have never responded to a blog before, and like many was so saddened and disappointed to see Jack killed off. I used this show when my own husband died suddenly and the love portrayed in it as my therapy. Then I watched the interview with the actors and how Daniel had to leave the show and it really hit me that this is A TV SHOW and that the writers did their best to honor Elizabeth and Jack’s story given changes in the cast. Real life IS full of losses and this show has always treated real life situations with grace and hope. I will continue to watch a show that promotes love, forgiveness, and redemption.
The mob mentality out there is what disappoints me now.
