Twitter Training for #Hearties

by Marisa Loffredo Corser

This a recap of a live Twitter Training (Tweetorial) event that the Administrators of Fans of Hallmark’s “When Calls The Heart” hosted on the Facebook page. Designed for newcomers, these instructions and tips were created so fans could ramp up on Twitter quickly to enjoy Live Tweeting with the cast and crew during new episodes of When Calls The Heart. The goal? To advance the Red Serge Twitter Forces and get #WhenCallsTheHeart trending on Twitter!

1.       What is Twitter? It’s a social media tool that features both information and a conversation. Imagine you and I are neighbors and we’re talking across the fence. We’re in public, but we’re conversing. Now imagine we take that conversation online and you have a digital picture of what Twitter is. Check out the Anatomy of a Tweet:Anatomy of a tweet

2.       Build connections by following people. I’ve set up my profile. How do I start to follow and build connections? Use your own contacts to grow your circle and influence. This import list is a great place to start. You might find friends through email and other sources that you didn’t know tweeted! This expands the circle of your influence and the number of people who learn about #WhenCallsTheHeart on Twitter.

Contacts

3.       Use the hashtags #WhenCallsTheHeart AND #Hearties. You need enough space for the content of your tweet. With only 140 characters you must be succinct! When LIVE tweeting, Hashtag = King and Content = Queen.

4.       Our #WhenCallsTheHeart Twitter List sits on my profile. Anyone who wants to be added can be by asking me: @MarisaCorser. Follow and use this list to tweet. Lists help you find more contacts and extend your circles of influence.

5.       Start Tweeting. Look at the profile of someone you’re following or who’s following you, find a post of theirs that you like, and click the “Retweet” link. It’s a good way to dip your toes in the water before you write your tweet. Follow Twitter-savvy Hearties like @Debdebbailey, @CamilleEide, @AllysonLapp, @Scooper1230, @sheridigi, and me, @MarisaCorser, to get started and find other like-minded followers. This is my profile.

6.       Include @HallmarkChannel in your tweets and follow them. They are making this wonderful family television show possible and we want to show them love and support. But continue to use the #WhenCallsTheHeart and #Hearties hashtags in every tweet.

7.       Respond and converse. Remember our Picket Fence analogy from the beginning? This is the chatting that we see on Twitter. It is more about connecting and conversing than sending out information.

Response

Congratulations! You are well on your way to mastering the art of Twitter. As you begin to share great content, please be mindful of your “digital tattoo.” If you wouldn’t say it to your employer, your mother, or your spouse, it doesn’t belong on Twitter. You can do this! If you have questions, message me on Twitter @MarisaCorser. Now, go tweet your “Hearties” out!
