Doug, the ideal mountie in both appearance (tall, slender, blue-eyed blond) and job view, enters the story. He will probably exit quickly because Jack pales in comparison (mud colored clothing at Elizabeth’s makes Jack look frumpy plus he twice made career choices based on love, (which viewers love because we are so invested in the love story) but which raises questions about head vs. heart, a very realistic concern and we see traces that Jack is having misgivings. How does this “upset” further plot?.
