Top TV programs available into 2016

On December 30, Western Morning News out of the UK reports that Welsh comedian and presenter Griff Rhys Jones presents a compilation of never-seen-before out-takes from the world of film and TV on “It’ll Be Alright on the Night,” ITV. This edition’s selection includes “fluffs and foul-ups” from British hit shows also seen in the U.S. and around the world, such as period drama “Mr. Selfridge” and medical comedy “Doc Martin.” Among the stars in the spotlight is actress Helen Mirren. British shows provided for American audiences in 2015 have been among the best for American TV. Americans will enjoy this British program that includes American favorites from the UK.

Although the Brits have provided some of the best in television programming in 2015, there have been a few other American TV series that have been outstanding in artistry and content. The top pick in an American television series has been “A.D. The Bible Continues” now on DVD and many streaming sources.

Following the success of their “Bible” miniseries for the American History Channel, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, originally from the UK, produced the sequel, “AD: The Bible Continues” for NBC as a 12 episode series. These episodes have powerfully depicted the events that took place after the crucifixion of Jesus and have followed the conflict around Christians and the beginning of the church.

This has been a series that has significantly raised the bar in storytelling and filmmaking for television. It has been a powerful picturization of the events of Acts in an accurate setting, which has encouraged viewers to study the history and cultures of the time. Most importantly, the series has encouraged viewers to study the Bible itself, like the Bereans, who as the Bible has described were of more noble character and examined the Scriptures to see if what was said was true.

In connection with the “A.D.” series, NBC’s Natalie Morales said, “God is the biggest star in Hollywood right now.” Further the Biblical Jesus Christ was on the cover and online of “T.V. Guide” in a double feature. The Christian triune God has been the biggest star in Hollywood in movies and television in 2015. This series is a top pick choice for home, church, educational libraries.

Another top pick television series has been “When Calls the Heart” on Hallmark . The Hallmark Channel has picked up a third season of “When Calls The Heart” for premiere in February. The network ordered 10 hours of Season 3, along with a 2-hour sneak peek of episodes 1 and 2 premiering during the 2015 holiday season. For those who missed the two-hour special of “When Calls the Heart” on the Hallmark Channel the day after Christmas, viewers can see this New Year’s special on iTunes and/or Amazon.
